Being a songwriter in Australia, I saw the loss of tv music shows like Countdown and the hole it left in our industry as devastating. Also the loss of daily and nightly variety shows meant that another source of income for musicians, and a platform for touring artists, just disappeared. Of course the takeover of our top 40 radio stations by the majors meant that most original artists couldn't get their songs played to a mass audience as they used to do. Almost everyone was independent, unless you were signed to a major, and even that didn't guarantee airplay.
So I decided to do something about it.

Wrokdown tv

In 2008, Anita was the producer of Wrokdown which was hosted by Wendy Stapleton and ran for over 8 years. We interviewed over 150 people that built our music industry from the 60s to the 80s. Click on the link and go to 'Series'.

Wrokdown radio

After starting the tv show, Anita realised that many of our older artists were still writing songs, including our favourite international ones, so began Wrokdown radio. After airing on a handful of radio stations in Australia, the show was taken up by FCR in Plymouth UK.

Vids that Wrok

This show, hosted by Anita, was purely videos. If she thought the song was good enough for radio, and they had a music video, then it was on Vids that Wrok. With music videos from older artists both from Australia and overseas, this show ran for over 90 episodes and is still being shown in the UK.

Anita Monk songs
